Valley Springs

Since the Gold Rush, Valley Springs has been Calaveras County’s Gateway to the Mother Lode. From stage stops along the route from Stockton to the San Joaquin & Sierra Nevada Railroad from Lodi that established Valley Springs in 1884, its location at the intersection of Highways 26 and 12 put the small town at an important crossroads for visitors to the Mother Lode. With Camanche, New Hogan, and Pardee reservoirs, Valley Springs’ Tri-Dam area is a magnet for boating, fishing and camping. Today, while still a rural community, a recent residential real estate boom has made Valley Springs a place to go to instead of a place to go through.
