Flowers Ranch, encompassing more than 3,000 acres southwest of Copperopolis in Calaveras County, was pieced together from more than 24 separate land patents, mostly granted during the 1870s and 1880s. Over the ensuing years, Nathan M. Flower and his descendants patented or purchased the parcels so that by about 1905 all of the land in the project area was under the ownership of members of the Flower family.
