Apautawilu Village
At the intersecton of Highway 26 and Lower Dorray Road is the site of the Miwuk village of Apautawilu. Occupied for centuries, by 1900 it is believed to be the only Miwuk village still in use. The village and its occupants are described in the 1852 journal of gold miner John Doble and documented by later residents of the area. It is reported on in a 2007 issue of Las Calaveras.
