Judge J.A. Smith, a native of West Point, was a founder and past president of the Calaveras County Historical Society. His abiding interest in local history continued throughout his life, during which he photographed numerous historic sites and buildings and authored articles on points of historic interest. His articles and papers are archived at the Calaveras County Historical Society, San Andreas.

Calaveras Heritage Council is fully committed to providing accessible facilities, elements and
channels of communication to all members of the public. As part of this commitment, Calaveras Heritage Council
